in conversation with Simon Leary (@simonLeary42 ) I said:

• in an ideal world an HPC system is fully disposable ... and scratch on HPC storage should be scratch
• of course the reality can be different
• but the default delete behaviour also demands less configuration for the site admin
• you then put more effort into config ... because you want to preserve

in other words we have come to an agreement that the existing behaviour should remain ... the project_openldap will delete unless configured otherwise, hence PR closed
